USS New York Hosts Tours In Kiel, Germany

KIEL, GERMANY (June 22, 2024) Capt. Benjamin Oakes, commanding officer of the San Antonio-class amphibious transport dock ship USS New York (LPD 21) greets Deputy Chief of Mission Woodward Price from the U.S. Embassy in Berlin, his wife, Anat Gelb-Price, and university students during a ship tour as a part of Kiel Week public tours following the exercise Baltic Operations 2024 (BALTOPS 24), June 22, 2024. New York’s participation in Kiel Week, an annual international sailing event and festival held in the Northern German city, also marks the completion of BALTOPS 24. BALTOPS 24 is the premier maritime-focused exercise in the Baltic Region. The exercise, led by U.S. Naval Forces Europe-Africa and executed by Naval Striking and Support Forces NATO, provides a unique training opportunity to strengthen combined response capabilities critical to preserving freedom of navigation and security in the Baltic Sea.
