Pearl Harbor Naval Shipyard and Intermediate Maintenance Facility

A welder apprentice with Pearl Harbor Naval Shipyard and Intermediate Maintenance Facility demonstrates the use of a blow torch, while his coworkers observe the process during a tour for a group of Honolulu Community College (HCC) staff members at Pearl Harbor, Hawaii, June 12, 2024. The team of first-year apprentices are learning to burn metal using the oxy-fuel process and are demonstrating for the HCC group which included about 20 staff members. The group spent time with formers students who are now apprentices at PHNSY & IMF. The Pearl Harbor Naval Shipyard Apprentice Program is a four-year program that includes full-time employment, hands-on training, and a tuition-free Applied Trades degree from HCC. Graduating apprentices also earn a certificate from the Department of Labor. (U.S. Navy photo by Claudia LaMantia)
