PHILIPPINE SEA (June 21, 2024) Cmdr. Stephen Szachta, commanding officer of the Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyer USS Rafael Peralta (DDG 115), sits on the bridge during a bilateral sail with the Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force Izumo-class helicopter destroyer JS Izumo (DDH 183) in the Philippine Sea, June 21, 2024. Combined operations such as this are intended to improve interoperability between allied navies and support a free and open Indo-Pacific. Rafael Peralta is forward-deployed and assigned to Destroyer Squadron (DESRON) 15, the Navy’s largest DESRON and the U.S. 7th Fleet’s principal surface force.
