From the July 2, 1943 edition of Defender, Naval Reservist and Distinguished Flying Cross holder Lieutenant Scott McCuskey was the principal speaker the Norfolk Naval Shipyard Independence Day War Bond Rally. It was his hope that every person working at the yard would purchase a war bond during the event to help ensure those fighting overseas had the equipment they needed.
