Space Delta 5 held its change of command at Vandenberg Space Force Base, Calif., July 3, 2024. The presiding officer for the ceremony, U.S. Space Force Lt. Gen. Douglas A. Schiess, U.S. Space Forces -Space Commander and Combined Joint Force Space Component Commander, relinquished command from outgoing DEL 5 commander, Col. Phillip A. Verroco, and presented the command to incoming DEL 5 commander, Col. Justin E. Sorice. DEL 5 is the U.S. Space Force command and control organization within Space Operations Command that is presented to USSPACECOM and S4S to accomplish the Combined Space Operations Center mission. DEL 5's mission is: Prepare, present, and fight assigned and attached forces for the purpose of conducting operational-level command and control (C2) of space forces to achieve theater and global objectives.
