Beth “Jack” Michelle, a special effects makeup artist, paints details onto a fake burn on Iowa Army National Guard Spc. Grace Kirby, an information technology specialist from Winterset, Iowa, and assigned to Headquarters & Headquarters Troop, 1st Squadron, 113th Cavalry Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 34th Infantry Division, during an eXportable Combat Training Capabilities rotation at Camp Ripley, Minn., on July 20, 2024. Jack has been working in special effects makeup since 2010. Even with a resume that includes work on shows like The Walking Dead and Black Adam, Jack continues to support the XCTC mission with her work by giving Soldiers opportunities to react to traumatic injuries during training in a more realistic way.
