Carolyn T. Doan, Marine Corps Warfighting Laboratory information systems engineer and Naval Research Enterprise Intern Program mentor, runs the 880-yard sprint as part of the U.S. Marine Corps Combat Fitness Test, June 28, 2024 at Quantico, Virginia. NREIP, under the Office of Naval Research, aims to encourage students to pursue careers in science and engineering by offering a ten-week program where undergraduate and graduate students work alongside Navy laboratory personnel to engage in real-world research, further their education through mentoring, and gain first-hand experience of Department of the Navy research and technology efforts. As a participant in NREIP, MCWL tasks interns with critical projects such as kill web analysis and Modeling & Simulation support for Marine Corps wargaming. This hands-on experience allows them to contribute to significant research initiatives, enhancing their academic knowledge and providing insight into DON research and technology efforts, with potential pathways to future employment within the DON.
