U.S. Army Staff Sgt. Angel Cruz, assigned to Alpha Company, U.S. Army Aviation Battalion-Japan (USAABJ), performs a post-flight inspection on a UH-60 Blackhawk helicopter after exercising their Pre-Accident plan training, a critical component to AVN readiness, during Orient Shield 24 at Camp Akeno, Japan, July 23, 2024.
The mission aimed to help the Japan Ground Self-Defense Force (JGSDF) local emergency first responders become familiar with real-life scenarios involving the UH-60 and to train staff on policies and procedures for handling in-flight emergencies.
Orient Shield 24 is a large-scale U.S. Army and Japan Ground Self-Defense Force (JGSDF) field exercise that focuses on converging U.S. Army Multi-Domain Operations and JGSDF Cross-Domain Operations through bilateral field training and live fire exercises that focus on a dynamic forward posture, enhancing tactical skills and interoperability.
