155th Air Refueling Wing maintainers paint a KC-135R Stratotanker, July 23, 2024, during a heritage paint scheme project at the National Guard air base in Lincoln, Nebraska. The scheme will feature black and white "Invasion Stripes," the European Theater of Operations fuselage code "9D A," and a white square for squadron identification, paying tribute to the 401st Fighter Squadron of the 370th Fighter Group from World War II. After the war, the 401st became the 173rd Fighter Squadron and later transitioned to the 173rd Air Refueling Squadron, part of the 155th Air Refueling Wing.
