A U.S. A-10 Thunderbolt II, assigned to the 303rd Fighter Squadron, flies next to an AC-130J Ghostrider, assigned to the 27th Special Operations Wing, after completing a live-fire exercise at Kaneohe Bay, Hawaii, during Exercise Rim of the Pacific (RIMPAC) 2024, July 15. Twenty-nine nations, 40 surface ships, three submarines, 14 national land forces, more than 150 aircraft, and 25,000 personnel are participating in and around the Hawaii Islands, June 27 to Aug. 1. Rim of the Pacific (RIMPAC) is a biennial exercise designed to foster and sustain cooperative relationships, critical to ensuring the safety of sea lanes and security in support of a free and open Indo-Pacific region.
