U.S. Marine Corps Sergeant Major Charles B. Peoples, the command sergeant major for the 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit, engages with future senior enlisted leaders aboard amphibious assault ship USS America (LHA 6) on July 27, 2024. Senior enlisted leaders of the 31st MEU were giving perspectives and sharing knowledge of the E- 8 community by describing differences and commonalities between the ranks of first sergeant and master sergeant. How the two separate, but equal ranks provide a service to the commander, Marines, and institution by providing council based on experience and education. The 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit is operating aboard ships of the America Amphibious Ready Group in the 7th Fleet area of operations, the U.S. Navy’s largest forward-deployed numbered fleet, and routinely interacts and operates with allies and partners in preserving a free and open Indo-Pacific region.
