Schreffler, Marine Corps Warfighting Laboratory Wargaming Division director, stands next to Kelly Schreffler, his wife, as she receives the Commandant’s Letter to Mrs. Kelly Schreffler from Brig. Gen. Kyle B. Ellison, Joint Chiefs of Staff J-33 deputy director for current and integrated operations, and retired Col. Christopher Bronzi, former MCWL Experimentation Division director, during a retirement ceremony celebrating Schreffler's 30 years of distinguished service to the U.S. Marine Corps, July 26, 2024, at Quantico, Virginia. A native of Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, Schreffler graduated from the Virginia Military Institute in 1994 and held numerous leadership roles during his Operation Iraqi Freedom deployments where he participated in stability and combat operations, commanded the 5th Marine Regiment, 1st Marine Division, and served as the director of the Wargaming Division at MCWL. Schreffler was instrumental in the development and implementation of the Marine Corps' wargaming capabilities, including the integration of advanced modeling and simulation techniques that enhanced strategic decision-making processes. During his time of service, Schreffler was awarded numerous honors, including the Legion of Merit, Bronze Star Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, and Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal. Reflecting on his assignment at MCWL's Wargaming Division, Schreffler said, "It is about the people; they are the Marine Corps' center of gravity. We could not accomplish the mission without them."
