Construction is taking great strides forward at the Grand Isle Dune and Beach Restoration Project. The dredge General MacArthur has pumped an estimated 700,000 cubic yards of sand through approximately 36,000 feet of pipe along the Grand Isle coast to restore the existing beach and dune. Concurrently, installation of a 4-mile reach of clay dune core is underway. To date approximately 30,000 cubic yards of clay material has been placed in the dune alignment. The completed repairs will restore the hurricane and storm risk reduction dune and beach to full design template with a final dune elevation of 13.5 feet.
