Kara Saldierna, Director of Special Education with Omaha Public Schools, accepts the Patriot Award, Aug. 1, 2024, during an Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve recognition meeting at Omaha Public Schools in Omaha, Nebraska. Carrie Baden, wife of Senior Master Sgt. Mark Baden, with the 155th Security Forces Squadron, nominated Saldierna for providing support to her while her husband was activated on orders. The Patriot Award reflects the efforts made to support citizen warriors through a wide-range of measures including flexible schedules, time off prior to and after deployment, caring for families, and granting leaves of absence if needed.
