U.S. Marine Corps Gunnery Sgt. Tristram Jones, the mission element lead with Marine Corps Cyber Operations Battalion, 3rd Network Battalion, takes a photo at Kakazu Ridge on Okinawa, Japan, Aug. 3, 2024. The Marines visited Kakazu and Hacksaw Ridge to gain an understanding of the two locations’ roles' in the Battle of Okinawa. Kakazu Ridge was a battlefield where U.S. forces faced Japanese defenses to gain higher ground and advance further during the Battle of Okinawa. Hacksaw Ridge was a crucial battleground in World War II, where U.S. forces advanced through Okinawa to secure a critical vantage point and where Desmond Doss saved numerous lives with his actions without carrying a weapon.
