Three U.S. citizens returned to American soil after being freed from Russian custody at Joint Base Andrews, Maryland, Aug. 1, 2024. The freed prisoners were greeted by the U.S. President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris, and reunited with their families as part of a historical 24-person prisoner swap between the U.S., Russia and five allied countries making this the largest prisoner exchange between the U.S. and Russia since the Cold War.
