A Japan Ground Self-Defense Force AH-64D helicopter with 1st Battle Helicopter Unit, Western Army Aviation Unit Japan Ground Self-Defense Force and a U.S. Marine Corps UH-1Y Venom helicopter with Marine Light Attack Helicopter Squadron (HMLA) 367, Marine Aircraft Group 36, 1st Marine Aircraft Wing prepare for takeoff from JGSDF Camp Metabaru, Saga, Japan during exercise Resolute Dragon 24, Aug. 1, 2024. The bilateral flight operations were conducted to build familiarity and interoperability between U.S. and Japanese aviation units. RD 24 is an annual bilateral exercise in Japan that strengthens the command, control, and multi-domain maneuver capabilities of U.S. Marines in III Marine Expeditionary Force and Japan Self-Defense Force personnel, with a focus on controlling and defending key maritime terrain.
