A Flat-tailed Horned Lizard rests on the ground during an occupancy survey at the Barry M. Goldwater Range near Marine Corps Air Station Yuma, Arizona, Aug. 7, 2024. Some features that are unique to the Flat-tailed Horned Lizard are: they roughly three or four inches in size, a tan or sand colored body, a distinctive black stripe that runs along their spine, long narrow spines on the lower jaw, a flat tail and a crown of horns around their head.
