U.S. Marine Corps Sgt. Cody Fitzpatrick, an automative maintenance technician with 9th Communication Battalion, I Marine Expeditionary Force Information Group, meritoriously promoted to his current rank on August 2, 2024. Fitzpatrick is an Idaho native and enlisted in the Marine Corps at the age of 17. Growing up he took inspiration from his two uncles who served in the Marine Corps, one being his uncle Jason who deployed twice to Afghanistan.
“He was part of the reason why I joined the Marine Corps, he’s an important person in my life and if he’s encouraging me to join, it must mean something,” said Fitzpatrick. “He was a great example of what a good person was by showing me the difference between right and wrong. He is the man I aspire to be.”
Fitzpatrick also credits his early mentors in the Marine Corps including Gunnery Sgt. Lucas Stevenson, Staff Sgt. Nicholas Mason, and Sgt. Jason McDoniel. Fitzpatrick says the Marine Corps developed his leadership skills, ability to work under pressure, and stay organized. “It’s given me skills on how to be efficient at my job and how to lead,” said Fitzpatrick.
