Five-year-old Zander Ulvestad, a resilient kindergartner battling stage 4 Wilms tumor, experienced a special day dedicated to him as he became an honorary fighter pilot for a day at the 114th Fighter Wing in Sioux Falls, S.D., Aug. 6, 2024. Zander attended a flight pre-briefing, accompanied a pilot on an F-16 walk-around prior to take off, toured a hangar, observed aircraft maintenance, and experienced watching fighter jets take off from the flight line.
