U.S. Marines with Task Force 61/2, Sailors assigned to the Blue Ridge-class command and control ship USS Mount Whitney (LCC 20), Italian Armed Forces service members and members of the community honor the heroic actions of Lt. Vincent R. Capodanno, a U.S. Navy Chaplain and Medal of Honor recipient, during his 57th memorial service in Gaeta, Italy, Sep. 4, 2024. Capodanno, also known as the “Grunt Padre,” was awarded the Medal of Honor posthumously for his actions in Vietnam where he administered medical and spiritual attention to wounded Sailors and Marines before his passing on the battlefield.
