U.S. Marine Corps 1st. Lt. John Fitzmaurice, an air traffic control officer assigned to Marine Medium Tiltrotor Squadron (VMM) 165 (Reinforced), 15th Marine Expeditionary Unit, and a native of Arizona, controls U.S. aircraft landing at Yeongcheon-ri, South Korea, Sept. 3, 2024, during a simulated airfield seizure mission as part of exercise Ssang Yong 24. Exercise SY24 strengthens the ROK-U.S. Alliance through bilateral, joint training, contributing toward combined amphibious capability in defense of the Korean Peninsula.
