NAVAL STATION ROTA, Spain (Sep. 15, 2024) Gunner's Mate 2nd Class Michael Chandler, from Big Spring, Texas, assigned to the Arleigh-Burke class guided-missile destroyer USS Roosevelt (DDG 80), hugs his wife after returning from a routine deployment to Naval Station (NAVSTA) Rota, Spain, Sep. 15, 2024. As the "Gateway to the Mediterranean,” NAVSTA Rota provides U.S., NATO and allied forces a strategic hub for operations in Europe, Africa and the Middle East.
