The Emergency Management (EM) Branch hosted the Maryland Department of Emergency Management (MDEM) for a collaboration and meet-and-greet event on Friday, September 13, at the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Baltimore District Headquarters. MDEM Secretary Russ Strickland and Deputy Secretary Chaz Eby attended with their staff. This event gave EM staff lead by USACE Baltimore District Deputy Commander LTC Mark Pollak to meet their Maryland Response Partners. The teams discussed State hazards, risks, and needs, the Planning Division Tech Services Branch, and Emergency Management tactics. They also covered Maryland State risk prevention, response, and recovery procedures.
They stressed that collaborating between state and federal partners is essential for effective emergency management, enabling coordinated responses, resource sharing, and unified strategies. They discussed the benefits of collaboration such as overall preparedness, optimizing funding allocation, improving risk management, and fostering innovative problem-solving, ultimately leading to better outcomes in crisis situations and increased public trust in governmental operations.
