Clark Allan, nephew of U.S. Army 2nd Lt. Evan E. Allan, who was the co-pilot of the B-24H Liberator “Heaven Can Wait” during Operation Market Garden, delivers remarks about his uncle during the 80th anniversary of Operation Market Garden in Goch, Germany, Sept. 18, 2024. Allan recounted the heroic story of how his uncle managed to land the plane, damaged by German anti-aircraft fire, saving the lives of five of the crew members, though losing his own in the process. The B-24H Liberator nicknamed “Heaven Can Wait” was flying a bombing mission in support of Allied forces during Operation Market Garden when the aircraft and the ten crew members crash landed near the town of Hommersum, Germany, after being hit by anti-aircraft fire.
