Capt. Eilis Cancel, commanding officer at Camp Lemonnier, Djibouti, welcomed the Sous-Préfet de Damerjog, Abdi Hassan Ahmed and his guests from the village of Damerjog for a visit to Camp Lemonnier’s Islamic cemetery. The burial ground on Camp Lemonnier dates back to the early 20th century and holds local and living significance with descendants in the area. The yearly visit is one of several community events that reinforces the camaraderie and friendship between Djiboutian community members and U.S. military members, who are neighbors and part of a community.
Camp Lemonnier is an operational installation that enables U.S., allied and partner nation forces to be where they are needed to ensure security and protect U.S. interests.
