The U.S. Navy conducts a pad-launched test flight of the C-4 Trident I missile from Flat Pad 25 C at Cape Canaveral Air Force Station, Florida, on Dec. 16, 1978. The Trident I was a three-stage, solid-propellant, inertially guided, submarine-launched fleet ballistic missile. It boasted a greater range and payload than its predecessors.
