U.S. Marine Corps Gunnery Sgt. Johnmondo Rotellini, a fixed-wing aircraft safety equipment mechanic, with Marine Fighter Attack Squadron (VMFA) 312, Marine Aircraft Group 31, 2nd Marine Aircraft Wing, and native of Missouri, bench presses a 135-pound barbell during the Ace of the Base competition at Marine Corps Air Station Iwakuni, Japan, Sept. 20, 2024. VMFA-312 traveled to MCAS Iwakuni as part of the Unit Deployment Program to augment MAG-12, 1st MAW. Ace of the Base is a monthly MAG-12 hosted fitness event that has tenant commands compete in friendly competition while at MCAS Iwakuni.
