U.S. Marine Corps Maj. Gen. Marcus Annibale, right, the commanding general of 1st Marine Aircraft Wing, III Marine Expeditionary Force, presents a gift during a healing ceremony hosted by the Tiwi Island-Mantiyupwi clan, in collaboration with the Larrakia Nation Aboriginal Corporation, in preparation for a Pukumani ceremony in Darwin, NT, Australia, Sept. 26, 2024. U.S. Marines were honored by the Tiwi Island and Larrakia people during the week leading up to two culturally significant ceremonies: a healing ceremony and a Pukumani ceremony. These ceremonies commemorated the three U.S. Marines who tragically lost their lives in a U.S. Marine Corps MV-22B Osprey crash on Melville Island on Aug. 27, 2023. The healing ceremony, led by the Tiwi people, marked the official end of mourning and included a traditional smoking ceremony. Annibale is a native of Virginia. (U.S. Marine Corps photo by Cpl.
