Tahlula ScreamingEagle, Great Promise for American Indians dancer, performs the Jingle Dress Dance during the 7th Annual Texas American Indian Heritage Day dance exhibition at Joint Base San Antonio-Randolph, Texas, Sept. 26, 2024. The Jingle Dress, also called a Prayer Dress, is considered to bring healing to the ill. The dance’s name comes from the dress’s rows of sewn metal cones which ring as the dancer performs. The JBSA event kicks off state-wide celebrations recognizing the historic, cultural and social contributions American Indian communities and leaders have made to the state.
