Sgt. Omar Estrada, a soldier with 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 1st Cavalry Division stands vigilant before daybreak. Estrada’s unit spent a month-long rotation at the National Training Center (NTC) in Ft. Irwin, Calif. Days in “the box” at the National Training Center often started before the crack of dawn and went late into the night. During their NTC scenario 3rd Brigade soldiers had to be ready for anything from insurgent attacks to chemical and biological warfare. (U.S. Army Photo/ Sgt. Tanangachi Mfuni, 7th MPAD)
