U.S. Marines from Marine Corps Recruit Depot Parris Island and members of the local community came together for a press event at Port Royal, S.C., Oct. 8, 2024. The press conference, held for senior leaders of the community and senior representatives from the Depot, allowed them to discuss projects and goals for the S.C. Department of Veteran Affairs Military Enhancement Grant. The grant was awarded to the Town of Port Royal in order to provide protection within the Port Royal Sound’s physical-environment infrastructure (reducing coastal erosion) through utilization of oyster restoration programs and smart reef technology.
