U.S. Marines with Battalion Landing Team 1/8, 24th Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU) Special Operations Capable (SOC) conduct a memorial run, Oct. 12, 2024. The Beirut Memorial Run is an annual event that honors the 241 Service members that lost their lives in the bombing of the Marine Barracks in Beirut, Lebanon on Oct. 23, 1983. The 24th MEU (SOC) and Wasp Amphibious Ready Group are on a scheduled deployment to U.S. Naval Forced Europe and Africa area of operations to support U.S., Allied and partner interests in the region, including in the Eastern Mediterranean Sea.
