U.S. Marine Corps Capt. Brian D. Beard, Combat Logistics Battalion 451 logistics officer, observes the Stern Landing Vessel, a modified oil-rig industry off-shore support vessel, reverse its approach towards the shore in order to demonstrate its capabilities, Oct. 23, 2024 at Kin Blue Training Area, Okinawa, Japan. The SLV, named the HOS Resolution, is a 267-foot converted offshore support vessel capable of providing 6,000 square feet of usable deck space that has been modified to beach and offload using a stern ramp. The Marine Corps Warfighting Laboratory contracted the SLV to explore maneuver and sustainment options for Stand-In Forces to inform the development of the Medium Landing Ship.
