U.S. Marine Corps Col. Matthew K. Mulvey, the commanding officer of Combat Logistics Regiment 17, 1st Marine Logistics Group, presents the Legion of Merit award to Sgt. Maj. Earl E. Budd, the outgoing sergeant major of CLR-17, during his relief and appointment ceremony on Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton, California, Oct. 25, 2024. The Legion of Merit award is awarded for exceptionally meritorious conduct in the performance of outstanding services. A relief and appointment ceremony is a military tradition that signifies all responsibilities and authorities being transferred between the old and new senior enlisted leader of the command. During the ceremony, Sgt. Maj. Earl D. Budd, the outgoing sergeant major of CLR-17, relinquished his role of Regimental Sergeant Major to Sgt. Maj. Lawrence S. Hudson.
