U.S. Marine Corps Staff Sgt. Jared Verstraten, a reconnaissance Marine assigned to Explosive Ordnance Disposal Mobile Unit 1, Expeditionary Mine Countermeasures Company 1-3, scans a simulated downed Mavic Air2s small, unmanned aircraft system quadcopter during exercise Keen Sword 25 at Camp Hansen, Japan, Oct. 29, 2024. U.S. Marines with 9th Engineer Support Brigade, 3rd Marine Logistics Group and U.S. Sailors with EODMU 1 were evaluated on securing and assessing interdicted small UAS of unknown origin. Keen Sword is a biennial, joint and bilateral field-training exercise involving U.S. military and Japan Self-Defense Force personnel, designed to increase readiness and interoperability while strengthening the ironclad U.S.-Japan alliance.
