Personnel from Commander, Navy Region Hawaii and Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam join community members and elected officials for a community workday at Nioi‘ula Heiau, an ancient Hawaiian cultural site, on Lualualei Naval Annex, Oct. 21, 2024. Members of the community, local organizations, and elected officials helped to organize the workday. Archaeologists led the clean-up effort that included clearing invasive Koa Haole trees using hand tools and battery-operated saws. The workday is part of the Navy’s ongoing effort to work with the community to preserve and care for the sacred site. (U.S. Navy photo by CSC Richard Everhart)
