The flight line and Main Base at Edwards AFB, CA as seen from above October 28, 2024. Housing areas can be seen at upper left. The Benefield Anechoic Facility is at middle left. The twin hangers at center were once part of today's South Base before being dragged across the desert to then-new Main Base in 1955. The dark 'inside runway' stretching across the bottom of the image is not the main runway. The 'inside runway' was constructed while upgrades were made to the main runway beginning in May 2008. The new runway, as Runway 04L, saw a single Space Shuttle landing before the end of the program (Endeavour, STS-126) in November of that year. (Air Force photo by Todd Schannuth)
