Patrick “PJ” Donovan, chief of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Planning Center of Expertise for Inland Navigation & Risk-Informed Economics Division, gives a presentation on the value of commerce across the Ohio River Basin during the 2024 Ohio River Basin Alliance Summit at the University of Pittsburgh, Oct. 31, 2024.
The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers had a strong presence at this year’s ORBA Summit, with more than 20 representatives attending from the Great Lakes and Ohio River Division. Several USACE members spoke, presented, or participated in panel discussions on topics ranging from Ohio River Basin commerce to strategies for funding federal water restoration programs.
ORBA is a coalition of stakeholders committed to sustaining the Ohio River Basin’s ecosystems, river communities, water resources, and water-dependent economies. The theme of this year’s summit was “Healthy Waters, Healthy Communities: From Headwaters to Mainstem.” USACE is one of many stakeholders dedicated to protecting the basin’s inland navigation infrastructure and natural resources.
