Vice Adm. Johnny Wolfe Jr., Director Strategic Systems Programs (SSP), shows Lt. Gen. Bobbi Shea, Commanding General, Fleet Marine Force, Atlantic and Commander, Marine Forces Command, the launcher console of USS Florida at SSP headquarters at the Washington Navy Yard on Oct. 28, 2024. While visiting the command, Lt. Gen. Shea and Vice Adm. Wolfe discussed the relationship between SSP and the Marine Corps units supporting the nuclear deterrence security mission. In her role as Commander, Marine Forces Command, Lt. Gen. Shea is responsible for the Marine Corps Security Force Regiment. The Marine Corps Security Force Battalion Atlantic in Kings Bay, Ga., and Marine Corps Security Force Battalion Pacific in Bangor, Wash., fall under the Marine Corps Security Force Regiment. The Battalions are responsible for securing strategic assets within the Strategic Weapons Facilities at each base in order to prevent unauthorized access or loss of control.
SSP is the Navy command that provides cradle-to-grave lifecycle support for the sea-based leg of the nation’s nuclear triad. This includes training, systems, equipment, facilities and personnel responsible for ensuring the safety, security, and effectiveness of the nation’s Submarine Launched Ballistic Missile (SLBM) Trident II (D5LE) Strategic Weapon System.
