Staff Sgt. Nathan Layne II, a Nondestructive Inspection technician, assigned to the 124th Maintenance Squadron, uses a Field-Lab 58 to complete an oil analysis at Naval Air Station North Island, San Diego, California, Oct. 30, 2024. The FL-58, a lighter and more portable alternative to a traditional spectrometer, has only recently been in operation by the Idaho Air National Guard’s NDI unit; Layne II is the first person to use this machine in the field.
