Fuel lines span the gap between the forward-deployed amphibious assault ships USS Essex (LHD 2) and the fleet replenishment oiler U.S. Naval Ship Walter S. Diehl (T-AO 193) as Essex receives fuel during a replenishment at sea (RAS). Essex is the lead ship of the only forward-deployed U.S. Expeditionary Strike Group and serves as the flagship for Combined Task Force 76, the Navy's only forward-deployed amphibious force commander. Task Force 76 is headquartered at White Beach Naval Facility, Okinawa, Japan, with a detachment in Sasebo, Japan. (U.S. Navy photo/Petty Officer 3rd Class Gabriel S. Weber)
