MIAMI – (Nov. 14, 2024) – Rear Adm. Carlos Sardiello, Commander U.S. Naval Forces Southern Command/U.S. 4th Fleet (USNAVSOUTH/FOURTHFLT), briefs students during the Combined Force Maritime Component Commander (CFMCC) Flag Course at USSOUTHCOM headquarters, November 13-19, 2024. Rear Adm. Sardiello served as host for this iteration of the course. This year’s course featured 19 partner nation senior officers and nine U.S. flag and general officers. The purpose of the CFMCC flag course is to improve the effectiveness of senior leaders (flag and general officers) who routinely work together at the operational level of command and control. During his presentation, Rear Adm. Sardiello discussed the upcoming UNITAS 2025 exercise. In honor of the U.S. Navy and U.S. Marine Corps 250th birthdays in 2025, the United States will host UNITAS 2025, the longest running multinational maritime exercise in the world. Conceived in 1959, UNITAS I took place in 1960.
