Bernardine Manibog, welder instructor, Pearl Harbor Naval Shipyard and Intermediate Maintenance Facility (PHNSY & IMF), demonstrates some of the work done at the welding school during a tour of James B. Castle High School students at Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam, Nov. 7, 2024. The event provided real world shop exposure to students expressing an interest in trades, engineering, and STEM. They received a shipyard mission brief and visited the marine machinery mechanics, welding and structural shop, and shipwrights work area. The tour is organized by PHNSY & IMF Community Relations Office as a way of building relationships with local schools while showcasing shipyard capabilities. PHNSY & IMF’s mission is to repair, maintain, and modernize Navy fast-attack submarines and surface ships, in order to keep the Navy’s fleet “Fit to Fight.” (U.S. Navy video by Claudia LaMantia)
