The UC Berkeley marching band, known as The Pride of California, perform prior to the start of the UC Berkeley vs. Syracuse football game, Nov. 16, 2024. Rear Adm. Richard W. Meyer, deputy commander, U.S. 3rd Fleet, administered the oath of enlistment during halftime of the game to 102 Air Force, Army, Marine Corps, Navy, and Space Force Reserve Officer's Training Corps (ROTC) cadets and midshipmen from universities in the Bay Area, including UC Berkeley, Stanford, UC Davis, and California Maritime Academy. An integral part of U.S. Pacific Fleet, U.S. 3rd Fleet not only leads naval forces in the Indo-Pacific, but also provides the realistic, relevant training necessary to flawlessly execute our Navy’s role across the full spectrum of military operations—from combat operations to humanitarian assistance and disaster relief.
