An interior view of building 1093 on Fort Bliss, Texas prior to renovation getting under way. The large bay was originally used as a laboratory for the Nike Hercules surface-to-air missile. Once completed, the building will house the U.S. Department of Defense Missile Defense Agency’s Terminal High Altitude Area Defense Academy. The THAAD academy is a partnership between the Department of Defense and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to train Royal Saudi Air Defense Forces soldiers on how to operate and maintain the THAAD. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Fort Worth District’s Southwest Area Office completed renovations on the building in just over 18 months.
