According to the University of Florida as of 2018, 33.6% of Florida's irrigated water is used by sugar. Agriculture is the second largest freshwater use category in Florida (after public supply), accounting for 2,089 Mgal/d of freshwater withdrawal in 2015 (Marella and Dixon 2018), with the major Florida crops accounting for a large share of agricultural water use.
