    The Flex-Foot Sprint

This is an artificial limb assembled by Hanger Orthopedic Group of Bethesda, Maryland, using components manufactured by Össur of Iceland, circa 2007. This design, custom fitted for the wearer, was optimized for running. The stump socket is lined with a silicone suspension that connects the prosthesis to the residual limb of the wearer. The Flex-Foot Sprint used a carbon fiber blade to replace the lower limb, ankle, and foot muscles. [M-129.11276] (National Museum of Health and Medicine photo by Kevin Sommer Giron.)
