U.S. Marine Corps Lt. Gen. Bobbi L. Shea, commanding general, Fleet Marine Force, Atlantic, commander, Marine Forces Command, commander, Marine Forces Northern Command (MARFORCOM), hands a piece of cake to Staff Sgt. James Standle (Ret), the oldest Marine, during the MARFORCOM 249th Marine Corps Birthday Ball at the Virginia Beach Convention Center, Virginia Beach, Va., Nov. 8, 2024. Standle served for 20 years in the Marine Corps from 1948 to 1968. On Nov. 10th, the Marine Corps celebrated its 249th birthday, honoring its founding in 1775 and paying tribute to the courage, sacrifice, and steadfast dedication to defending the nation that defines every Marine, past and present.
