The Assistant Chief of Staff, Depot Inspector of Headquarters and Service Battalion, Col. David Arenas, passes a slice of cake to the youngest Marine Pfc. Isaiah Escobar, with Recruit Training Regiment, MCRD San Diego, during a cake cutting ceremony at MCRD San Diego California, Nov. 6, 2024. Arenas enlisted February of 1992 and commissioned in April of 2000 and Escobar enlisted in May of 2024. The passing of the slice of cake is a tradition between the oldest and youngest Marine on the base. The annual cake cutting ceremony is a long-standing tradition that celebrates the establishment of the United States Marine Corps. The Marine Corps birthday, on Nov. 10, 1775, is celebrated every year to commemorate the birth of the Corps and honor the service of all Marines, past and present. (U.S. Marine Corps photo by Cpl.
